Tonight (May 7) marked the final performance round of Season 2 of ‘The Voice,’ with the contestants taking the stage to sing three (!) times. They each performed solo, with their respective coaches and also tackled one of their coach’s hits. The solo performances are the only ones that are eligible for audience votes, with the winner to be determined on tomorrow’s finale.

The “WTF!” moment of the season took place tonight, too. Read on to find out what it was.

Jermaine Paul: The powerhouse owned R. Kelly‘s ‘I Believe I Can Fly,’ hitting some larger-than-life notes and touching that sky. His coach Blake Shelton said “My heart is in my throat right now. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that song until tonight,” meaning that Paul brought it to life, despite Shelton having heard it a million times prior. He returned to perform Shelton’s ‘God Gave Me You’ and did him extremely proud. He took a country song and Jermaine’d it. They sang ‘Soul Man’ together, reversing roles, with Jermaine directing Blake. They were bromancing. A. Levine, you jeal? All in all, it was super fun duet.

Juliet Simms: The resident rocker, sole remaining female and last woman standing for Cee Lo Green‘s team chose to offer up her take on ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley, which is Cee Lo’s group. It was a poppy choice that didn’t showcase her raspy rocker pipes. It did let us hear her dynamics, so it was a risky choice. We liked it, though! She dueted with Cee Lo on Steppenwolf’s ‘Born to Be Wild’ and it was just that: wild, loud, hellion-like and fun. Her last song was Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s ‘Free Bird.’ With her Stevie Nicks-like stage presence, Simms reminded us why she could be the new voice of rock.

Chris Mann: The classically trained Josh-Groban-in-training soared with ‘Prayer’ for his duet with Christina Aguilera. They were a classy and classic pair. He went solo and sang Xtina’s ‘The Voice Within’ and it was powerful without being too operatic and had a mainstream accessibility without being poppy. It was everything we love about the Mann and then some. That last note? He killed it with a hammer, an axe, a  machine gun, a bomb a grenade and anything else that you can think of. For his final perf, he finally did a Josh Groban song, lifting the roof with ‘You Raise Me Up.’

Tony Lucca: The former Mouseketeer was going for it. Like his unique cover of Brit‘s ‘…Baby One More Time,’ he turned in a jammy, rocked out rendition of Jay-Z‘s ’99 Problems.’ Say what? It was quite an original reworking of a Hova classic. It was the WTF moment of Season 2, though! We liked it, as well, since it was so unexpected. Xtina felt it was derogatory towards women, with Lucca’s coach Adam Levine quickly pointing out the lyrical metaphor. Come on, Xtina! You clearly have a beef with your former fellow Mouseketeer, since you always diss the guy. He and Adam dueted on the Beatles ‘Yesterday.’ It was mellow and really sweetly done. He paid tribute to Levine by perfoming Maroon 5‘s ‘Harder to Breathe.’ This song showed viewers why Levine is so committed to Lucca; they’re musical kindred spirits.
