Luke Evans made headlines yesterday (March 4) when news broke that he is reportedly in negotiations to play Gaston in the upcoming live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. While Disney fans recognized the infamously egomaniacal cartoon character, less is known about the actor playing the updated role.

That's where we come in!

The Welsh actor got his start in theater (perfect for the over-the-top behavior of Gaston, right?). According to Wales Online, he appeared in such productions as La Cava, Avenue Q, Miss Saigon and Rent.

If you recognize Luke's face, it's probably because he's been in a number of big-budget films. A quick scan of his IMDB page shows roles in movies such as Fast & Furious 6The Hobbit: The Desolation of SmaugThe Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Fast & Furious: Supercharged. That's not counting the multiple parts he's signed on to play!

We're confident that Luke can pull off Gaston's signature swagger. After all, he made the list of GQ's 50 Best Dressed Men in Britain 2015 alongside David Beckham and Tom Hardy. NBD.

The Beauty and the Beast remake is set to hit theaters in 2016. Emma Watson announced she'll be playing Belle on Facebook, telling fans, "It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There.’ My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
