Bruno Mars is the first announced performer at the 2016 American Music Awards, which also announced this year's crop of nominees on October 10. When is the show? And who's up for awards? We've got the answer to these, and all of your AMAs 2016-related questions.

When is the American Music Awards?
The 2016 American Music Awards will take place on Sunday, November 20, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. You'll be able to catch the live show at 8/7c PM on ABC.

Who's performing at the American Music Awards?
A whole lot of people. As announced on October 19, Bruno Mars will open this year's AMAs. He'll likely perform "24K Magic," the title track to his upcoming album, or a medley including "Chunky," which Mars debuted on SNL.

Lady Gaga will also perform during the 2016 AMAs. She announced the news on Twitter, writing, "Bringing #JOANNE to the @AMAs on 11/20! See u there!”

Niall Horan will mark his budding post-One Direction career with a performance of his new single, "This Town," while Justin Bieber will put in a performance from Zurich, where he's currently on the road with the Purpose World Tour.

The Chainsmokers and Halsey will bring their enduring No. 1 hit, "Closer," to the stage once again — Chainsmoker Andrew Taggart claimed he was "set up to fail" at the 2016 VMAs following an ear-punishing live rendition of the track, so the AMAs will be the group's chance to set things right, performance-wise.

DJ Khaled will perform "Do You Mind" with Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Future and August Alsina. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj will take their "Side to Side" collab to a new awards stage as well, and the packed slate of performers also includes Fifth Harmony delivering "That's My Girl" and The Weeknd performing "Starboy." Twenty One Pilots, Shawn Mendes, John Legend, Green Day, Shakira with Carlos Vives, James Bay and Sting are also set to take the stage.

Who's hosting the American Music Awards?
Model Gigi Hadid and SNL alum Jay Pharoah will cohost the night's festivities.

How are American Music Awards winners chosen?
The awards show bills itself as "the world's biggest fan-voted awards show" and, indeed, you can vote for your favorites right now on the AMA website (you must be logged into Facebook to vote, to foil bots). Because it's 2016 and we live in a multi-platform world, you can vote on Twitter as well.

For the categories considered "Editorial Awards," the voting window's open from now until November 14 at at 8:59:59 AM Pacific Time. Voting for the New Artist Award, however, doesn't begin until November 2 and closes on the evening of the broadcast on November 20.

Voting for the Artist Award, in which there are currently 10 nominees, gets a smidge more complicated: The first voting window runs from now until the morning of November 14. Once that round whittles the finalists down to a top five, fans have from November 14 to November 17 to cast their final votes.

Who are the American Music Awards nominees?
Drake leads the pack with a record-setting 13 nominations, Rihanna's up for seven, while Adele and Justin Bieber are both up for five. Check out the full list of 2016 AMAs nominees below.
