Maybe those Tony Awards for the stage version of 'American Idiot' have turned Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong into a theater junkie. The singer has signed on to write music for a rock-influenced stage update of Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing.'

The Hollywood Reporter explains that the project is called 'These Paper Bullets' and will run for a month starting in March 2014 at Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven, Ct. 'These Paper Bullets' will tell the story of a group from Liverpool known as the Quartos, who seek love while recording an album. No additional information is available regarding Armstrong's role and whether he may record or perform the songs himself.

'American Idiot,' the Broadway show based on Green Day's album of the same name, was nominated for Best Musical at the Tonys and took home two other trophies. It also won a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album.

After his return from rehab, Armstrong is back with Green Day this week performing at SXSW and promoting 'Broadway Idiot,' a documentary about how the 'American Idiot' album became a successful stage show. The group's nationwide arena tour in support of their ‘¡Uno!,’ ‘¡Dos!’ and ‘¡Tre!’ album trilogy begins on March 28 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.
