British television singing competition 'X Factor,' has announced that Cheryl Cole has signed on to serve as a judge on the American according to U.K. newspaper, The Sun.

Cole's involvement with the show has been rumored for months, but recent reports say the show's music executive, Antonio 'L.A.' Reid, let the cat out of the bag that she would in fact be joining the American team. The judge's panel will also include the show's producer, Simon Cowell.

"We're gonna compete against 'American Idol' just fine," Reid says. "I'm very confident. But along with Simon Cowell and Cheryl, I don't know who the other judge is."

Rumors have been swirling for weeks that the potential fourth judge on the show's panel could be Nicole Scherzinger, Nicki Minaj, Paula Abdul, or Mariah Carey.

Rapper Snoop Dogg turned down offers to join the US show, saying he would much rather be involved as a mentor to the competitors. "They asked me to do that, but I don't think that's for me," he says. "I wouldn't mind going on the show as a mentor, but not as far as a judge."

The US version of 'X Factor' is scheduled to premiere in September.
