Chloe x Halle Discuss How Beyonce’s Support Impacts Them as Artists
Chloe and Halle Bailey love Beyonce. That's no secret. The sibling duo Chloe x Halle got their start by uploading inventive covers of popular R&B and hip-hop songs on YouTube, and their rendition of Queen Bey's "Pretty Hurts" has nearly 15 million streams to date.
Beyonce shared their videos on her Facebook page and signed the young singers to her label, Parkwood Entertainment. The sisters even made a cameo in 2016's Lemonade visuals and opened for the pop star on tour. Last week, Chloe x Halle released their debut album, The Kids Are Alright, and chatted with Vulture about just how much Beyonce's support has meant to them.
"Beyonce has always encouraged us to trust our intuition," Chloe told Vulture. "I’m so grateful because some artists are not able to do that, but we are, and it means the world to us."
"I feel very fortunate because we’re given this incredible platform with Beyonce and [her label] Parkwood, but we’re still able to use our voices and tell the story that we want to tell and create the music we want to create," she adds.
With the support of Beyonce, the sisters have been able to create a sound truly their own and also branch out into other endeavors, like appearing in the black-ish spinoff grown-ish and contributing the show's theme song.
"I look to her and say, 'If she can feel like she’s worthy and beautiful, then I can too,'" Halle says.
