The Top 8 dwindled to a Top 7 on tonight's (March 28) results/elimination episode of 'American Idol,' as bilingual teen singer Devin Velez was sent home. The judges loved his passionate and emotional performance of episode mentor Smokey Robinson's 'Tracks of My Tears' last night, but apparently, America did not.

Despite a deafening chant of "Save!" from the live audience, Randy Jackson let Velez and host Ryan Seacrest know that the opinion on the judging panel was not unanimous and that they would not be using their sole save of the season on this particular singer.

They have only three more weeks to use the save and they are clinging to it; one of the singers is going to need to use the jaws of life to pry the save from the fingers of our judges!

You know, we think that the judges that don't want to grant a contestant the save should make their individual decision be known instead of letting Jackson deliver the dreams-dashing news for the collective every week. That has to be exhausting for the Dawg, right?

Earlier in the ep, show mentor Jimmy Iovine said he thought Lazaro Arbos would be out but 'twas not the case.

So, goodbye for now, Devin! You entertained us wonderfully for the past few months. Thank you!
