Felicity Huffman Sentenced to 14 Days in Prison For College Admissions Scandal

Felicity Huffman was just sentenced to 14 days in prison for her involvement in a college admissions scandal that has rocked the nation. Huffman will also be required to complete 250 hours of community service, and serve one year of probation.

In her final statement to the judge before the sentence was announced inside a Boston courtroom on Friday, Huffman said she took responsibility for her actions.

"I take full responsibility for my actions. I will deserve whatever punishment you give me," Huffman said.

"I can only say, I am so sorry Sophia," Felicity said in the courtroom. "I was frightened, I was stupid, and I was so wrong. I am deeply ashamed of what I've done."

The Desperate Housewives star has been one of the parents at the center of the nation's largest college admissions scandal in history.

Prosecutors alleged that Felicity Huffman paid $15,000 to Rick Singer's fake charity that facilitated cheating when her daughter took the SATs for college admission. Huffman was one of many parents charged in the scheme earlier this year.

“Ms Huffman, compared to the other defendants, with regard to culpability...she paid I think one of the smallest bribes...did not involve her child," Massachusetts Federal Judge Indira Talwani said on Friday.

“She knew what she was doing was wrong and she did take many steps to facilitate the scheme. Trying to be a good mother doesn’t excuse this," the judge said in the packed Boston courtroom.

In April, she pled guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. At least 13 other wealthy parents have pled guilty in the case.

Full House actress Lori Loughlin has also been charged in the case, and she has not pled guilty in the case. Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, are scheduled to appear in court on October 2 for a status hearing their case. Each face up to 40 years in prison for the alleged insolvent in the scandal.
