Green Day are ready to hit the road again following frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's extended absence in rehab. That, and the fact that they have two new documentaries to promote, has led to the punk-pop trio joining the lineup for South by Southwest for the first time.

The Austin, Texas festival runs from March 8-17 this year, and Green Day's SXSW live set will take place at the Moody Theatre on Friday, March 15. The fest will see the premiere of 'Broadway Idiot,' a documentary film that followed Armstrong and his Broadway collaborators as they turned the group's acclaimed 'American Idiot' album into a successful stage show.

Green Day have another documentary showing at SXSW. Their '¡Cuatro!' movie gives fans a behind-the-scenes look into the recording of the group's '¡Uno!,' '¡Dos!' and '¡Tre!' series of albums. Bassist Mike Dirnt said, "'¡Cuatro!' brings our fans one step closer by giving them even more access and revealing what it was like for us to make these records.”

Armstrong entered rehab after his meltdown at the 2012 iHeart Radio Festival, which kept the band from being able to properly promote its trilogy of records, which charted at No. 2, 9 and 13, respectively. After SXSW and a few club dates, Green Day's big arena tour kicks off on March 28 in Rosemont, Illinois.
