If you were headed to prison in a few days, how would you want to stop your last hours of freedom? If you answered "yukking it up on the set of a cheery morning talk show," you have something in common with Ja Rule.

The rapper hit 'Good Day New York' on Monday to promote his new album 'Pain is Love 2' and talk about the gun incident that got him in trouble. After hosts Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto discussed the strange charge "attempted possession of a weapon," Kelly asked Ja Rule flat-out, "Do you deserve to go to jail?"

"Laws are laws," he replied. "These are the laws of New York City, and they're very strict laws ... By them finding a firearm in my vehicle, there's nothing I could do but own up to the situation."

Ja also joked, "Tell your dad to lighten up on the gun laws!," making reference to the fact that Kelly's father Ray is New York City police commissioner.

Ja begins his two-year jail sentence today. Prison hasn't stopped Lil Wayne and T.I. from having successful careers, so we'll see how 'Pain is Love 2' fares while he's behind bars.

The original 'Pain is Love' went triple-platinum and produced hit collaborations 'Always on Time' with Ashanti and 'I'm Real' with Jennifer Lopez.
