Taylor Swift’s Cancer-Stricken ACM Date Cancels
McGuire suffered a 103-degree fever and was hospitalized before he was scheduled to fly to Las Vegas to join Swift at the ACM Awards. McGuire's sister, Victoria, announced the devastating news on the 'Taylor Swift Take Kevin McGuire to Prom' Facebook page.
Hi everyone, I am so sorry to announce this devastating news, but Kevin was admitted to the hospital last night, and is unable to attend the Academy of Country Music Awards with Taylor Swift. As we should all live by the moto “ live for today” a cancer patient feels the impact of these words far to hard. We appreciate everything you have done for us, and we know you are all hurt from this too. Please continue to pray for Kevin and his health, because that is the most important thing. As for Taylor, she is just as depressed as all of us to miss out on this date, and we are so thankful for the opportunity she has given us.
McGuire is fighting his second battle with leukemia, and cousin Nicole Durand told USA Today that his chemotherapy compromised his immune system, making him more susceptible to infections and limiting room visits to the teen. Additionally, his hemoglobin and blood cell counts were too low for McGuire to fly safely.
Local businesses in McGuire's southern New Jersey area are hosting fundraisers to support his medical bills and aid in finding a bone marrow transplant for the 18-year-old. Swift had arranged and paid for McGuire's tuxedo and shoes, as well as airfare and hotel accomodations for him and his family. She sounds just as sad as he is by the news, which she shared on Twitter.
Just talked to Kevin McGuire. He's not well enough to join me at the ACMs. Please keep him in your thoughts. I'll make it up to you, Kevin!

We're saddened by the news and wish McGuire a speedy recovery. Maybe a private concert is in order when he's feeling better!
