As one of the stars of the smash hit show Empire, Jussie Smollett's life is moving forward in the public eye.

After speculation about the star's personal life, most notably his sexuality, Jussie finally revealedto Ellen Degeneres that he's never been in a closet. Ellen replied "I think the most important thing is talent, the most important thing is what we do, and we don't want anything to get in the way of that."

During his visit to the talk show, Smollett performed "Good Enough," which we first heard on the show's pilot episode. The actor knocked the song out of the park, working the stage and never missing a note. In light of his brave announcement, the lyrics ring true: "What do I gotta do? / I just want you to look at me / And see that I can be worth your love." You can watch the heartbreaking scene from the TV show here.

On Empire Smollett stars as Jamal Lyon, the openly gay and talented middle son of the show's patriarch, Lucious Lyon, and firecracker leading lady, Cookie Lyon.

If you enjoyed this performance, tune in to American Idol tomorrow night: Just Jared reports that the star will be performing along with his onscreen brothers.
