The Lifetime Original Movie 'Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B' is set to depict the R&B star's rise to superstardom, incredible success and her tragic, untimely death at the age of 22. As huge fans of Aaliyah, we've been intrigued by the project ever since it was announced, and the trailer only makes us even more eager for the movie to air on TV.

Alexandra Shipp stars as Aaliyah, and, based on the trailer, resembles the late artist not just in looks -- but in mannerisms as well, holding her own on screen with the same sweet swag as Aaliyah. While the trailer builds up Aaliyah's rise to the top -- showcasing the superstar she truly became -- it's all the more poignant because we know how it ends.

In addition to Shipp, the Lifetime flick (which is based on the bestselling book 'Aaliyah: More Than a Woman') is also set to feature portrayals of artists integral to Aaliyah's life and success: Izaak Smith as Timbaland, Chattrisse Dolabaille as Missy Elliott and Elise Neal as Gladys Knight.

Check out the trailer above, and be sure to tune in to the Lifetime Original Movie 'Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B' on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8/7c on Lifetime. #AaliyahMovie
