Welcome to America, Lorde! The 16-year-old New Zealand singer is experiencing a notable 24 hours in the USA, making her first-ever appearance on American TV, then debuting at the top of the U.S. singles chart only hours later!

American television audiences got their first look at Lorde on last night's (Oct. 1) 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.' Wearing a light-colored dress and combat boots and with her long hair at maximum Lorde-ness, she performed her breakout hit, 'Royals.' Joining her onstage for the song's spare arrangement were a synth player and a drummer. A second performance, 'White Teeth Teens,' was filmed as a Web exclusive.

'Royals,' the first single from debut album 'Pure Heroine,' made some news today (Oct. 20) too: The track hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, knocking Miley Cyrus' 'Wrecking Ball' out of the top spot after two weeks. 'Royals,' which was named this week's top Airplay Gainer, also tops the Digital Songs, Hot Rock Songs and adult-alternative tallies.

Party in the USA, people!
