NKOTB Singer Donnie Wahlberg Helps Fan Find Match for Kidney Transplant

New Kids on the Block Member Donnie Wahlberg used his Twitter account to help a Nashville fan find a match for a kidney transplant. Thanks to the singer-actor's actions, the girl is scheduled to receive a new kidney in June.

Wahlberg noticed that a few of his fans had tweeted about a blog piece on NKOTB fan Bobbette Miller, who desperately needs a new kidney. He then retweeted the item to his 180,000-plus followers. As a result, six matches were found, and one of them is donating a kidney to Miller.

“It’s a testament to the value of Twitter when used for more than telling people what one is eating for dinner or using it to sell products by tweeting as an endorser,” Wahlberg told the Boston Herald.

Miler's best friend, Abbie Vicknair, was blown away by Wahlberg's actions. "I knew I had to reach a lot of people in the fastest way possible, so I posted the blog on Twitter," recalls Vicknair. "And within two hours, I saw that Donnie retweeted the link. I stopped dead when I read it. I couldn’t believe he did it."
