Although he first gained widespread recognition as the youngest member of the Disney-backed teenage pop group the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas’ solo career both predated and has now extended beyond that trio’s activities. Born Nicholas Jerry Jonas in Dallas, Texas, on September 16, 1992, Nick was raised in New Jersey and, by the age of seven, was performing on Broadway, playing roles like Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol and Little Jake in Annie Get Your Gun. By age ten he was signed to Columbia Records as a christian solo artist, but true fame only came after Nick joined forces with his brothers Kevin and Joe to form the Jonas Brothers, and plugged into the Disney teen-idol-making machinery. A single appearance on an audience record-breaking episode of Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana paved the way to a reality show called Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream, then major concert tours, movie appearances (Camp Rock 1 & 2) and, of course, hit albums and singles. The Jonas Brothers eventually ran out of steam in 2010 and their precocious leader immediately shifted gears into his side project, Nick Jonas & the Administration, though only Nick was depicted on the group’s 2010 album, Who I Am. And only his name would grace 2012’s Songs from How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying EP (which coincided with a brief Jonas Brothers reunion) and a self-titled album in 2014, which became a Top 10 hit and spawned a pair of million-selling singles in “Chains” and “Jealous.” Jonas proceed to tour behind the album, while making time to launch his own label, Safehouse Records, and remains actively committed to charity work — particularly focusing on children's causes and diabetes initiatives, as he himself is a Type I diabetic.
