R&B hitmaker The-Dream hasn't been heard from since his 2010 album 'Love King,' which was a great album despite it selling poorly in the marketplace. Now, under his real name Terius Nash, he returns with the first single from his digital-only EP '1977.' The collection is the singer's gift to his fans who are patiently waiting for the release of his fourth studio effort 'The Love, IV: Diary of a Madman.'

'Wake Me When It's Over' features Terius' honest lyrics over an atmospheric plodding beat, as he tells the story of a failed relationship and him being set up as the fall guy. "Life on the Internet/ I look like a devil / But you wearing the red dress, holding the shovel," he sings. "I try to keep it hush for you / Keep it on the low / I tried to spare your feelings / Now shut the door / You knew it was over."

You usually don't hear tormented lyrics like this on today's R&B songs, which quite refreshing to hear from Mr. Nash. Although we do miss the bouncy hits The- Dream is known for like 'Shorty Is a 10' and "Rockin' That Thing.' However, it's always good to see an artist get into a creative mind space and invite his fans to hear what's on his mind.

The-Dream's '1997' EP will be available as a free download on Aug. 31.
