Tyler Robinson revealed a lot more about himself than just his vocal talent prior to his performance of Train's 'Hey, Soul Sister' on 'The Voice.'

The 20-year-old from Folsom, Calif., explained that his religious upbringing clashes with his sexual orientation. "Growing up Mormon was difficult for someone like me," explained Robinson. "I'm gay. It doesn't define me, but that's who I am. My mom's definitely [OK] with me being gay."

However, Robinson added that he doesn't "have the best relationship" with his dad. "My father does not know that I'm gay," admitted Robinson before acknowledging that he was speaking on a national TV show: "I guess he knows now!"

Robinson's performance of 'Hey, Soul Sister' caught the attention of country star Blake Shelton, who ended up being the only coach to give his seal of approval to the young singer. "I think you have a solid, full voice," remarked Shelton, who was surprised at Robinson's appearance. "I thought it was Drew Carey when I turned around!" Robinson hugged his mother after leaving the stage, and she told him, "I'm so proud of you!"
