Woman Inside R. Kelly’s Alleged ‘Sex Cult’ Says Members Are ‘Brainwashed’
An unnamed source who claims to have lived under R. Kelly's roof has come forward to offer insight into the performer's alleged "sex cult," and says Kelly's tenants are often "brainwashed" into staying.
A woman who goes by "Kim" told Jezebel in a new story that while the members of Kelly's inner-circle are of legal age, they're often young enough to be convinced to stay. Kim noted that women are often instructed how to think and behave, and are instructed to call him "Daddy." Kelly, on the other hand, calls his tenants "babies."
“They can leave, but it was like witnessing Stockholm Syndrome," Kim said. "All these girls are so nice and trusting and young."
"I knew what I was getting myself into,” she added. “All these girls just dote on him. It’s so f----- up. They’re completely manipulated and brainwashed.”
Kim said she met Kelly at one of his shows about a year ago when he slipped her his number. Soon, she was flying back and forth to see him in different cities, which is when she noticed his treatment of other women.
“When we’re out we’re not allowed to look at anyone,” she said. “We have to keep our heads down. If we’re back in his studio sitting on the couches and he has friends across the room at the bar we can’t look at each other or communicate with each other.”
Kim also said the women were mandated to “tell on each other."
“If we’re in an Uber and we chat up the driver we’re supposed to tell him this girl did this or that. He’s very controlling and manipulative. He likes to be in control," she said. "It’s not non-consensual, I guess...But I don’t know if they even realize the situation they’re in is wrong.”
