Big, bold, loud and proud.
On tonight's (May 1) elimination and results episode, opera singer and Josh Groban heir apparent Chris Mann advanced for Team Christina Aguilera on 'The Voice.' The debonair gentleman edged out breathy vocalist Lindsey Pavao, who was an early favorite when the season launched this past winter. Mann will represent Xtina in next week's finals. He is, as they say, the last man standing.
On tonight's (April 30) semi-final episode of 'The Voice,' resident opera singer Chris Mann chose to sing 'Ave Maria,' in a move that showed he would be staying true to himself when everyone is watching his moves. He sang a Coldplay song during his last performance and while we loved seeing (and hearing) him go pop, he smartly returned to his wheelhouse, which is a big, bold, beautiful song sung in another language. It's the semis. You go big or you go home. Mann chose to go huge, really.
Chris Mann was sent to the semifinals on tonight's elimination episode (April 17) of 'The Voice,' thanks to America's vote. Christina Aguilera's remaining team members Ashley De La Rosa and Lindsey Pavao had to do a Last Chance and perform for the save. Xtina chose to keep Pavao, therefore sending De La Rosa home through a torrent of tears.
Chris Mann is the resident opera singer on 'The Voice.' He does something classic, which is a challenge for him, since all of his fellow contestants are doing such current songs. So when he chose Coldplay's 'Viva la Vida,' under coach Christina Aguilera's suggestion, it certainly took people by surprise. But it was a smart choice. He was stepping outside of the box of familiarity and you cannot fault him for that.
Christina Aguilera's classically trained opera singer was out to prove he wasn't just a one-trick contestant on 'The Voice.' Chris Mann was right to not worry about his performance from a vocal standpoint. The 29-year-old's challenge was connecting with the audience while singing 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' by Simon and Garfunkel.
Team Christina Aguilera members Chris Mann and Monique Benabou were tasked with performing a duet of Celine Dion's 'The Power of Love' on 'The Voice' tonight (March 5.) We must say that Xtina chose wisely for her charges. Doin' Dion is always a challenge, since few (if any) singers have the same range as the Canadian diva. But these two? They owned this song, belting it out as if they wrote the lyrics and were actually in love with each other.
