With its peppy singles 'What the Hell' and 'Smile,' Avril Lavigne's 'Goodbye Lullaby' record seems pretty upbeat to us, but the singer says she wants her next album to be "more fun."

The singer told the fansite Avril Lavigne Bandaids that she's almost ready to finish the follow-up to 'Goodbye Lullaby,' which just came out in March.

"I already have 8 songs!" she says. "I would like to release the fifth album really quick. This record was more mellow, and the next one will be pop and more fun again. I already have a song that I know is going to be a single. I just need to re-record it."

'Goodbye Lullaby' entered the album chart at No. 4, but its singles haven't quite lit up the charts like Lavigne's earlier work, such as the 2002 hit 'I'm With You,' which Avril told the site is her favorite of all the songs she's written.

Lavigne has been leaning closer to the punk side of her pop-punk persona lately, dropping F bombs left and right. She begins the next leg of her tour in July.
