Bebe Rexha Calls out Male Music Industry Executive for Claiming She’s ‘Too Old’ to Be Sexy
Bebe Rexha shared a sexy photo of herself donning a black bra and underwear, while taking aim at a male music industry executive, who told her that she was "getting too old" to share sexy pictures of herself online.
"I recently had a MALE music executive tell me that I was getting too old and that my brand was “confusing.” Because... I’m a songwriter and I post sexy pics on my Instagram and that’s not what female songwriters are [supposed] to do, especially for my age. I’m 29," Rexha wrote in the Instagram caption.
"I’m fed up with being put in a box. I make my own rules. I’m tired of women getting labeled as “hags” when they get old and guys get labeled as sexy with age. Anyways, I’m turning 30 on August 30 and you know what, I’m not running away from it," Rexha shared.
"I’m not gonna lie about my age or sing songs that I feel will sell better because they sound “younger.” I’m gonna celebrate my age because you know what, I’m wiser, I’m stronger and TRUST ME I’m a much better lover than I was 10 years ago," she concluded.
Rexha followed up the Instagram post with tweets to tell her fans that there is "no age you can't be sexy" and that she is not afraid to speak out about the subject matter.
Celebrities and fans were quick to support Rexha and share some of their own stories of age discrimination and body image confidence.
Rita Ora, The Chainsmokers, Lauren Jauregui, Tinashe, Ne-Yo, X Ambassadors, Laura Marano and Jamie Lynn Spears all left comments sharing their support for Rexha speaking out about the issue.
Taylor Swift also left a comment on her post. Swift told Rexha to "drag them" and "29-year-olds unite". Rexha freaked out over Swift's comment. "Taylor commented on my pic. I’m dead. Literally, my heart stopped. Dead dead dead," Rexha tweeted with a crying emoji.
