Beyoncé and Solange's father, Mathew Knowles, revealed that he is a breast cancer survivor.

Matthew made the announcement on Wednesday's Good Morning America episode, he spoke about being in the 1% of men who have breast cancer. He discovered that something was wrong when on two different days he had droplets of blood on his shirt. He immediately went to the doctor after noticing the blood and was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"I am going to get the second breast removed in January because I want to do anything I can to reduce the risk," he told GMA in the exclusive interview. "We use the words 'cancer-free,' but medically there's no such thing as 'cancer-free.' There's always a risk."

The former manager said that his children have a 50-70% chance of getting the BRCA mutation and breast cancer.  "We used to think this was only an issue for women, but this is male or female," he continued.  "Breast cancer has been prevalent in our family. I want men and women to be aware -- if you detect the cancer early you can have a low mortality rate and live a normal life."

The 67-year-old revealed that his family members were his first call after the diagnosis to make sure that they get tested. "The first call was to my family, that was the very first call. Because this is genetics," he explained. "It also means my kids have a higher chance, a higher risk, even my grandkids have a higher risk. And they handled it like they should. They went and got the test."
