Despite the fact that they started out as a conscious rap group, the Black Eyed Peas and frontman will.i.am have always tried to explore new genres, taking their R&B, hip-hop and dance sound into the future.

The Peas enlisted electronic star David Guetta to produce 2009's 'I Gotta Feeling,' which spent 14 weeks at No. 1 to become the group's biggest hit yet.

A year later, on the album 'The Beginning,' the Black Eyed Peas embraced EDM even more, sampling '(I've Had) The Time of My Life' and turning it into the electro synthpop jam 'The Time (Dirty Bit).'

will.i.am told Spin about the inspiration for 'The Beginning': "This one is more inspired by electro and dance music — it's the only thing alive at the moment. There are some songs where we're going all the way, but we mix it up. Some songs are 120 BPM and others are like 320."
