Bruno Mars is this generation's answer to 'Thriller'-era Michael Jackson, thanks to his butter-smooth voice and his infectious dance moves.

Mars grooved in the most laid back of fashions on tonight's episode of 'American Idol,' playing his breezy new single, 'The Lazy Song' from his breakthrough album, 'Doo Wops & Hooligans.' Regardless of the actual weather, it feels like there is not a cloud in the sky when Mars performs this song -- as it emits an easy-going, not-a-care-in-the-world, "Sieze the day" vibe.

Mars, in his signature black hat and a red denim vest, wore sunglasses inside the studio. Perhaps the singer-songwriter did so in order to further invoke the beachy, summery nature of the song!

Much like 'Idol' alum Crystal Bowersox, who also performed on tonight's episode, it was impossible to avoid, escape or sidestep the infectiousness of Mars' performance. It was a futile effort to try and stop ourselves from toe tapping and engaging in a little back 'n' forth head nodding.

Hopefully seeing a bona fide superstar like Bruno Mars perform live and in the flesh will inspire the remaining crop of Idols, who were whittled down to five this evening, to further mix movement into their future performances!
