Broadway fans just got their first look at Darren Criss in his upcoming role as the lead in Hedwig and the Angry Inch!

The Glee star tweeted a promotional shot of himself in character, which includes blue eye shadow and glitter. He captioned the photo, "I put on some makeup...," lyrics from the show's breakout number "Wig in a Box."

Hedwig is a transgender singer from East Germany who is realizing her rock star dreams. Billboard reports that the play opened in April 2014, with Neil Patrick Harris playing the title character. Following his Tony-winning performance, the role was assumed by Dexter's Michael C. Hall, Girls' Andrew Rannells and, finally, the show's off-off-Broadway progenitor John Cameron Mitchell. (You can see a photo of Hedwig's past, present and future over on Darren's Twitter.)

Given Darren's theatrical background, we think he'll be phenomenal in the coveted role. He first garnered buzz for his role at Harry Potter in A Very Potter Musical. After gaining worldwide fame for playing Warbler Blaine Anderson on Glee, Darren starred as J. Pierrepont Finch in the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

We imagine that Darren's Glee character Blaine would be overjoyed to land such an incredible role, and on Broadway, no less. (We also imagine Lea Michele's character Rachel Berry would have some serious envy!)

Darren's tenure as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch will run from April 29–July 19. You can get tickets over at the musical's website.
