‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ Trailer Conjures High Drama, Young Dumbledore + Johnny Depp
Wants at the ready, Potterheads: The trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has finally apparated online, and it's brimming with enchantment.
The action-packed clip for the Harry Potter spin-off film features glimpses at young Dumbledore (played with mischievous charm by Jude Law), Zoe Kravitz as Leta Lestrange—Newt Scamander's maybe-lover, and who is related to HP baddie Bellatrix Lestrange—and the controversially-cast Johnny Depp as villain Gellert Grindelwald.
Also included in the trailer? Dragons, Hogwarts and 1920s London, oh my! (Plus, new beasts... including a cute, disheveled looking owl-esque bird. Merch alert!)
The trailer was initially announced with a teaser clip and social media hashtag — #WandsReady — on Monday (March 12).

Though anticipated by many fans, The Crimes of Grindelwald has also been marred by controversy due to Depp's controversial casting following revelations that he was abusive to ex-wife Amber Head. Back in January, Harry Potter actor Danielle Radcliffe weighed in on the controversy.
"I can see why people are frustrated with the response that they were given from that," he said. "I’m not saying anything that anybody hasn’t already said — and this is a weird analogy to draw — [but] in the NFL, there are lots of players arrested for smoking weed and there is other people’s behavior that goes way beyond that and it’s tolerated because they’re very famous players. I suppose the thing I was struck by was, we did have a guy [actor Jamie Waylett] who was reprimanded for weed on the [original Harry Potter] film, essentially, so obviously what Johnny has been accused of is much greater than that."
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters November 16.
