There's mashups and then there's mega mashups. Gotye found a creative way to celebrate his No. 1 smash hit 'Somebody That I Used to Know' by assembling and curating a host of online versions and covers of the song into one mega mashup and mix.

Thanks to its popularity, the song has inspired countless parodies and covers. It's like the 'Call Me Maybe' of the indie pop world. That's not lost on the Aussie singer, who compiled them here as 'Somebodies: A YouTube Orchestra.' He even provides the links to the originals of these versions.

If you love the song, then this is all you. If you are sick of it, since it was ubiquitous on the radio for much of the summer, then you will want to pass go here.

How philosophical is this project, though? Gotye is so inspired by the people who are so inspired by his song that he edits a compilation clip? So he inspired himself, it would seem!

He did acknowledge that he didn't catch all of the covers – and how could he? There are so freakin' many. But he does attest to the song's larger-than-lifeness.

On his website, he posted, "Reluctant as I am to add to the mountain of interpretations of 'Somebody That I Used to Know,' seemingly taking over their own area of the internet, I couldn't resist the massive remixability that such a large, varied yet connected bundle of source material offered," he said.

In less humble hands, this might seem like a huge pat on the back or a self-congratulating move, but it's not. Gotye "gets" it.
