Hayley Kiyoko Navigates an Ex-Girlfriend’s Mind Games in ‘Curious’ (VIDEO)
On Thursday (January 11), Hayley Kiyoko released her music video for "Curious," the hook-heavy, sultry lead single off her debut album, Expectations, out March 30.
In the clip, Hayley navigates the awkward tension of running into an ex-girlfriend at a house party—an old flame that continues to burn for the pop star, despite having a new boyfriend who just so happens to be in the room—as she dances her way through the hallways.
"Calling me up so late at night / Are we just friends? / You say you wanted me, but you're sleeping with him," the artist sings over a lush soundscape of shimmering synths and thumping beats, finally asking, "I'm just curious, is it serious?"
The emotionally-charged, self-directed video climaxes with a steamy bathroom rendezvous before Hayley, fed up with her flirtatious ex-lover's toxic back-and-forth and indecision, moves on for good.
"I’m so excited to launch my debut album with 'Curious,'" Hayley explained in a press release. "This song is all about self-respect and knowing when to walk away when someone you care about is playing games. The treatment I came up with for the video helps gets that point across in a fun and tongue-in-cheek way. I hope people connect with it and can’t wait for everyone to see it!"
