Being a country music superstar sure does open a lot of doors, doesn't it? These days, being in the spotlight can lead to brand deals, product ambassadorships, partnerships and, in some cases, roles in Hollywood.

Of course, country artists wanting to try their hand at acting isn't anything new, but there has been a steady climb in acting's popularity in Nashville.

For decades, country singers have been popping up in both television shows and movie in cameos, but it takes a special dose of courage to take on an acting role. It's easy to play yourself in front of the camera, but it's a lot harder to try to portray someone else authentically.

There are several country artists whose names have almost become as respected in Los Angeles as they are in Music City. For instance, Reba McEntire had her own sitcom named after her that ran for several seasons and now she has launched her second. These are in addition to the movies she's acted in.

Then you have people like Kris Kristofferson, who not only acted in plenty of projects over his time on Earth, he also won a Golden Globe in 1977. They don't just hand those out to anyone. You have to be good — real good.

The Rise of Taylor Sheridan and Neo-Westerns

In the last 10 years, there have been more artists raising their hands to act because the roles are less of a stretch for them. There has been a rise in country music's popularity in culture and audiences are enjoying the country lifestyle being portrayed on both the small and big screens.

You can thank Taylor Sheridan for this. His show Yellowstone put neo-westerns on the map, and he has run with the concept launching several spinoffs under the show's umbrella.

Sheridan has also been known to cast country singers in his projects including Lainey Wilson, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Riley Green and more.
