The first official 'Sparkle' film poster has been unveiled, and on it, singer/actress Jordin Sparks is the focal point, standing in the spotlight, bathed in light. Sparks portrays the film's titular character, so it's no surprise that she is the centerpiece of the poster.

The overarching theme of fame, which is threaded through the film, is captured by this single image. It's arresting and informative at once. Sparks looks like a superstar and totally comfortable in that pose. Her character is ready for her close up, as they say in show biz. She Sparks-les!

In a red, form-fitting, floor-length gown, with her hair pulled back at the neck, Sparks is looking up, with her arms outstretched. She strikes a very diva-like pose and is giving it all for her adoring audience and public -- because, really, that's what a pop diva does.

The film, a remake of the 1976 movie of the same name, is inspired by Motown girl group the Supremes and their rise to fame. Sparks plays one of the Williams sisters trying to make it big as a singer, with the late, great Whitney Houston in her last film role as their mother, a failed singer herself.

'Sparkle' is due in theaters on Aug. 17.
