While Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has managed to keep a good chunk of GOP voters under his thumb, two of entertainment's biggest voices are keeping a healthy distance.

Yesterday (January 25), future Hey, Dolly! star Bette Midler came out swinging against Trump after he said his popularity was so unwavering, he could murder someone in broad daylight without threatening his chances at the Oval Office.

"They say I have the most loyal people, did you see that?" Trump noted at a rally last week before contorting his hand into the shape of a handgun. "Where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose any voters, okay? It's like, incredible."

Seriously. He said it:

Understandably, Midler, a sane person, recognized how damaging the hyperbole could be, and asked a very reasonable question on Twitter: How could anyone possibly vote for this guy?

And Kelly Clarkson, a fellow observer of basic rationale, decided to chime in.

"I am legitimately frightened for our nation," she replied to Midler's message.

And if history's any indication, Kelly might soon jump deeper into the political fray. In 2013, she performed "My Country Tis Of Thee" at President Barack Obama's second inauguration, much to No. 44's delight.
