In news that we find incredibly hard to believe, Kelly Clarkson is claiming that quite a few famous singers have turned down the opportunity to work with her on her new album. Um, what? E! News is reporting that according to an interview she had on BBC Radio 1 with Nick Grimshaw today (Feb. 18), Kelly has asked numerous singers to collaborate or record with her for her upcoming album, Piece by Piece, but most of them have turned her down.

She said (all quotes via E!), "I honestly would collaborate with a lot of people, but everyone usually says no. I'm not kidding you. I have legitimately asked several people that I'm not going to call out, and that's cool, but I don't know."

Kelly remained diplomatic about the whole thing, refusing to name any names, saying, "I ask good people, I don't want to sing with crap people, so I mean, I ask people who are great vocalists, but I'm not going to point out anyone. I have asked several people…Sometimes I feel like I have the plague, or leprosy, they're like, 'If you get too close…' I don't know."

The only reasoning we could possibly understand or accept behind turning down someone as insanely talented as Kelly is the intimidation factor. Kelly's just so good and such a powerhouse vocalist that there's no way we'd risk looking bad next to her, you know? So we're going to go with that theory, because it's the only one that makes sense.

Thankfully, John Legend was totally willing to collaborate with Kelly. She said, "I got John Legend to say yes, and he's cool. I can get country artists to sing with me and John Legend! I'm gonna keep John Legend. He's super credible and talented. I feel very good about myself with that one." We feel good about it, too, Kelly!

What do you guys think? Are you just as surprised as we are to hear the news? Would you sing on a record opposite Kelly Clarkson?
