Lauryn Hill posted an open letter on her website, somewhat addressing the rumors about the paternity of her newborn son. She does not say who the father is, nor does she clearly state that her longtime partner Rohan Marley is or is not the child's father. In fact, she seems to take careful measures to keep the information ambiguous, sparking further speculation.

The singer does not say whether she and Marley are even still together amid speculation that he bolted for Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana. What she does say is that they have five kids together; five together, but what about the newborn sixth? That arithmetic would suggest that Marley is not the father. God, we sound like Maury Povich right now!

Here's the text of Hill's posting:

"Mr. Marley and I have a long and complex history about WHICH many inaccuracies have been reported since the beginning. To speculate without facts can only cause people to form wrong conclusions. We both value privacy and for that reason defend and preserve our right to it. Contrary to numerous reports, Mr. Marley did not abandon me while pregnant with his child. We have long periods of separation over the years but our 5 children together remain a joy to both of us. Thank you for the concern and I appreciate the well wishes regarding the birth of my new son. Until next time, Ms. Hill."

She says "my new son," not "our new son." She also says that they have periods of separation, which we guess his dalliance with Fontana might be. She also says he did not leave her while pregnant with his child. See how easy it is to come up with possible scenarios? Hill's letter is cleverly constructed and keeps curious fans guessing.
