Rapper-actor Mos Def has inked a deal to guest star in the upcoming sixth season of 'Dexter.' The hip-hop renaissance man will appear in a multi-episode arc on the Showtime thriller.

Mos Def, who has acted in such films as 'Monster's Ball,' 'Bamboozled,' and 'The Italian Job,' will portray a hardened ex-con named Brother Sam whose religious rebirth is conflicted by his violent surroundings, according to a press release. He joins fellow guest star Colin Hanks in the forthcoming season of 'Dexter,' which will begin production in June and premiere this fall.

After releasing one album with Talib Kweli as the duo Black Star, Mos Def has dropped a number of solo discs. His most recent effort is 2009's 'The Ecstatic,' which debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.
