Pia Toscano Heads Out On Her Own in ‘This Time’ Video

Season 10 'American Idol' contestant Pia Toscano has just released her first video, for the song 'This Time.' 'Idol' observers praised the 22-year-old's star power, and she needs every ounce of it for this video because, aside from a few distant figures in the background, she's the only person who appears in it.

The video doesn't have a discernible plot. Instead, the singer is shown in a series of close-ups from various locations -- driving down a country road, kneeling on a beach and standing on an urban street at night. The lighting is a major focus of the video, with sunlight, sunsets and street lights in most of the shots.

The lack of bells and whistles puts the attention on the lyrics and on Toscano's powerful voice. In a way, the solo video is appropriate since the song is about breaking away from a guy who plays too many games and heading out to live life on her own. She sings, "This time, this time I'm gonna do it my way / This time, I'm finding out the hard way / This time, I'm gonna go back to the girl I was on the night you found me."

Toscano seems comfortable and confident in her surroundings, looking very much like the talented singer who many picked to win 'Idol' before her surprising ninth-place finish. 'This Time' is the first single from Toscano's debut album for Interscope, which she is currently recording with producer Rodney Jerkins and others.
