Randy Jackson Not an ‘American Idol’ Judge Moving Forward
Well, it's official. Randy Jackson will not be returning as a judge on 'American Idol,' but he will remain as a "mentor" for the show.
However, things aren't hunky dory with Jackson's new mentor position either. According to a TMZ source, 'Idol' execs are concerned this dawg may not be suited for the role, but are keeping him involved because he keeps the show together.
Us Weekly originally reported the rumors of the role switch in July, which was during the same time Nick Jonas and Pharrell Williams were allegedly being considered for judges spots. We now know that Nicki Minaj is set to take Jackson's spot, although TMZ reports that her deal is not done just yet.
Mariah Carey was announced as an official judge in July, but rumors are that the diva is not a fan of Minaj. This will make for plenty of drama next season. The third seat is set to be filled by country star Keith Urban.
There will be a fourth judge in place for Season 12, but that spot is unconfirmed. Word on the street is that Kanye West has some major players in his corner trying to land him the coveted gig.
