Star Trek Beyond — the third installment in the recent series' reboot and thirteenth in the franchise as a whole — finally has an official trailer, which Paramount Pictures posted to their YouTube channel earlier today (December 14). Star Trek Beyond is directed by Justin Lin (Fast and Furious), with J.J. Abrams taking on the role of principal producer. After multiple push-backs for the release date, Beyond will finally hit theaters this summer on July 22.

The trailer quickly launches into a series of explosive visuals of intergalactic battle, which eventually cut to images of Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Commander Spock (Zachary Quinto), and the rest of the crew stranded on a strange planet following the loss of their ship. Over the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," a breathy line from Kirk plays over the footage as he states, "We got no ship, no crew. How we gonna get out of this one?"

We're treated to battle scenes in which crew members fighting their newest enemies, one of whom utters an ominous declaration of war: "This is where it begins, Captain. This is where the frontier pushes back."

Although an official synopsis has yet to appear, one of the film's screenwriters Simon Pegg has this to say: He set out to “make a western or a thriller or a heist movie, then populate that with Star Trek characters so it’s more inclusive to an audience that might be a little bit reticent" (via The Guardian).
