Tyler, The Creator Says He’s Been Banned From Entering Australia
It looks like controversial rapper Tyler, The Creator might have been banned from visiting Australia in the future.
According to tweets Tyler posted earlier today (July 27), Australian feminist movement Collective Shout finally succeeded in their years-long attempt to bar the rapper from entering the country.
He tweeted, “T IS NOW BANNED FROM AUSTRALIA, YOU WON @CoralieAlison IM HAPPY FOR YOU <3”
According to Pitchfork, the rapper has a notably contentious relationship with Collective Shout, who called for his visa to be revoked back in 2013 and asked his shows be cancelled due to lyrics that many claim promote violence against women.
Once Tyler caught wind of the group's attempt to ban his entry, he called out Talitha Stone, a member of Collective Shout, during one of his shows in Australia. Stone attended the show and wrote a piece for the Guardian in response to Tyler's comments. According to Stone's recount, Tyler said to the crowd, "F---king bitch, I wish she could hear me call her a bitch, too, f---king whore. Yeah, I got a sold-out show right now bitch. Hey this f---king song is dedicated to you, you f---king c---t."
Collective Shout went on to organize another campaign earlier this year in an attempt to bar Tyler from entering the country altogether. They reportedly wrote to the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, claiming Tyler is “a danger to a segment of the Australian community.”
