Hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean is recovering after being shot in his hand late Saturday evening (March 19) during an election trip to Haiti. The incident occurred in Port-au-Prince on the eve of the country's presidential runoff vote, just past 11PM. Luckily the wound to his hand was superficial.

According to WENN news, Jean was with rapper Busta Rhymes and music exec Jimmy Rosemund when the car they were in was "peppered with bullets." Jean was immediately taken to the hospital where he was treated and released soon after. No other passengers in the vehicle were injured during the shooting.

"He is doing well," Jean's publicist, Cindy Tanenbaum, told CNN.

Jean, former member of the Fugees, was born in Haiti and has been an outspoken proponent of the country through the years with his Yele Haiti Foundation. The singer was one of the first celebrities to offer assistance after the devastating earthquake last year.
