XXXTentacion Breaks Taylor Swift’s Single-Day Spotify Streaming Record
Just a day after XXXTentacion was shot and killed in South Florida, his song "SAD!" dethroned Taylor Swift and broke the single-day record for Spotify streams, Billboard reports.
"SAD!" amassed 10.4 million streams on Spotify June 19, according to Spotifycharts.com, while Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" racked up 10.1 million streams the day it was released, August 25, 2017.
Although Spotify had temporarily removed the Floridian rapper's music from all major playlists as part of a failed hateful conduct policy rollout, because he had been accused but not yet charged with several felonies including domestic abuse, the streaming platform included "SAD!" as the opening song of its lauded Rap Caviar playlist, along with a tribute to the young artist the day he died (June 18).
More information regarding his death was released on Wedneday (June 20), which states he was shot in the neck while sitting in his car outside a motorsports store in Deerbeach, Florida and was thought to have died instantly.
Though thought to have been a random incident linked to robbery, the Broward Sheriff Office does not have a suspect in custody and is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for anyone who gives an anonymous tip that leads in an arrest.
