America saved Tony Lucca for Team Adam Levine on 'The Voice,' so Katrina Parker and Mathai had to perform for the save on tonight's (April 24) elimination episode. Levine ended up choosing Parker after a long, drawn out speech about his love for both of them and their talents, therefore ending Mathai's run on the show. So Lucca and Parker will represent Team Adam in the semis next week.
Mathai, the 18-year-old nursing student from Dallas, is in possession of carefree, unique voice. That's why her coach Adam Levine chose Nelly Furtado's 'I'm Like a Bird' for tonight's (April 23) quarterfinals performance on 'The Voice.' Levine was convinced that Mathai was born to sing this song but she needed some persuading. Make that a lot of persuading, actually.
Adorable, precocious teen Mathai showed off a serious set of pipes on 'The Voice,' taking on John Legend's timeless ballad 'Ordinary People.' The quirky Team Adam member took a huge risk singing a song that is the equivalent of an emotional punch to the gut, but pulled it off with flying colors.
It takes a lot to make it even to the Battle Rounds of 'The Voice,' and on Monday's episode, NBC tested the staying power of two shining hopefuls: Nicolle Galyon and Mathai. The pair of Team Adam members graced the screen for some 15 odd minutes, trying their respective hands -- and voices -- at Sara Bareilles' first hit, 'Love Song.'
