5SOS Announce New Single ‘Want You Back’ With Cover Artwork + Release Date
Looks like #5SOS3ISCOMING after all: The Australian four-piece are giving fans what they asked for.
On Monday morning (February 19), after idling for what seemed like eons for signs of a new album, 5 Seconds of Summer have officially returned their fans' appeals for fresh material after announcing their newest single "Want You Back" would release this Friday (February 23).
"WANT YOU BACK // COMING 23.02.18" the band tweeted, proving 5SOSer's suspicions that new music was on the way after the group — comprising bandmates Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, and Calum Hood — beaconed a mysterious new project when they tweeted an intriguing pic last Thursday (February 15), captioned: "BEHIND THE SCENES 2018."
Leading up to today's surprise reveal, the "She Looks So Perfect" stars previewed the cover art for the new song in a series of cryptic tweets. One such tweet seemed to show lyrics from the tune, like: "No matter where I go, I'm always gonna want you back / No matter how long you're gone, I'm always gonna want you back."
Of course, the images and inscriptions only fueled the gossip surrounding the possibilities of a third album arriving sooner than we think.
“Want You Back” will be the band’s first single in over two years. Even so, we’re only a few days away from the big debut — and guessing by the lyrics alone, we predict it’ll be nothing short of radio-friendly.
