From contestant to judge, Adam Lambert's 'American Idol' journey is coming full circle.

Billboard reports that on Wednesday, Sept. 17, Lambert will be stepping in for Keith Urban for the New York City 'American Idol' auditions at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Urban is currently away on leave after his wife Nicole Kidman's father passed away due to an accidental fall in Singapore.

Lambert will be joining Season 14 judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr., neither of whom served as judges back in 2009 when Lambert was a contestant on Season 8. Lambert ultimately earned a spot in the final two, losing to Kris Allen in the season finale.

'American Idol' Season 14 will premiere in January 2015.

The 32-year-old singer has been touring this year with Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen. Their Madison Square Garden show sold out in 24 hours, and five additional dates were subsequently added due to strong demand.
