Celebrity Friends, Co-Stars React to Anton Yelchin’s Untimely Death
Anton Yelchin's famous friends, collaborators and admirers are reacting to the sad news of the 27-year-old actor's death following an auto accident early Sunday morning (June 19).
Yelchin, who made his screen debut as a guest on NBC drama E.R. back in 2000 and rose to acclaim starring in movies including 2006's Alpha Dog, 2007's Charlie Bartlett and 2013 Dean Koontz adaptation Odd Thomas, had racked up a long list of acting credits in his too-brief career. He reprised his role as Chekov in Star Trek Beyond, set for release on July 22.
"Our Star Trek family has lost one of its own. My deepest condolences to his family and friends," George Takei, original Star Trek cast member, wrote on Facebook.
"Our dear friend, our comrade, our Anton," Zachary Quinto, Yelchin's Star Trek costar, lamented on Instagram. "One of the most open and intellectually curious people I have ever had the pleasure to know. So enormously talented and generous of heart. Wise beyond his years. And gone before his time. All love and strength to his family at this impossible time of grief."
"The sweetest, most humble, delightful, talented guy you'd ever meet," wrote director Guillermo Del Toro, who had been working with Yelchin on upcoming animated Netflix series Trollhunters. "Worked together for about a year. Shocked."
Ostensibly referencing the staggering amount of high-profile deaths this year has seen, Guillermo continued, "As far as I am concerned, 2016 cannot end fast enough."
