‘Baywatch’ Movie Adds Belinda as Potential Babe in Peril
The new Baywatch movie: in which two lifeguards rescuing a swimmer could be confused for a nautical-inspired Calvin Klein shoot.
In an interview with Spain's El Pais published yesterday (March 15) as translated by The Daily Mail, Mexican pop singer Belinda (full name Belinda Peregrín Schüll) confirmed she's been cast in the upcoming Baywatch movie reboot as a potentially endangered beach-goer. Not much else is known about Belinda's character except that her name is Carmen, which the Mail noted could be a nod to Carmen Electra, who appeared in the movie's eponymous origin series as Lani McKenzie from 1997 to 1998.
Belinda, who's been active in Mexico's entertainment scene since she was ten, broke out in 2003 as a singer when her self-titled debut album sold nearly three-million copies. She's also been nominated for a handful of Latin Grammys and has been heralded by Billboard as the princess of Latin pop.
The Baywatch film reboot, first announced by The Hollywood Reporter in August 2015, will feature Zac Efron and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as lifeguards. Johnson's character will be a no-nonsense type, but will be forced to team up with Efron's "hothead" character to stop an oil tycoon that could potentially destroy the local beach's beloved shoreline.
"She's very funnyyyyyy..." Johnson tweeted of Belinda after after news of her Baywatch-addition broke.
