Bella Hadid ‘Proud’ To Be a Muslim, Condemns Trump Policy
When it comes to religion, supermodel Bella Hadid is no shrinking violet, and says in a new interview with Porter that she's very proud of her creed.
Hadid, who protested President Donald Trump's travel ban — which ostensibly targeted Muslim immigrants — in January, told the magazine that she's completely content with her Muslim upbringing, and noted that new American policy targeting the religion is incredibly disheartening.
“My dad was a refugee when he first came to America, so [President Donald Trump’s travel ban] is actually very close to home for my sister and brother and me,” she said. "He was always religious, and he always prayed with us. I am proud to be a Muslim.”
Hadid also opened up about her struggle with Lyme Disease, and said her initial diagnosis was coupled with some truly horrifying and debilitating symptoms.
“I couldn’t get out of bed for six days. And my brain would get all foggy, and I couldn’t see,” she said. "That was the hardest time of my life.”
Still, what hasn't killed her has made her stronger, and she said that following a public breakup with The Weeknd, she's focused on cultivating her own sense of self-worth.
“I’m just really focusing on myself, and my work, and just being the best that I can be,” she said. "I’m not really worried about what guys think about me, I’m just trying to be a woman!”
