Beyonce has finally released her cover of Lee Greenwood‘s 'God Bless The USA' to benefit the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.

The song was originally recorded in 2008 for Barack Obama's presidential campaign, but has not been released until now. The tune premiered on CNN’s 'Piers Morgan Tonight' on Thursday, the same day that the President participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Ground Zero, meeting with 9/11 families and first responders.

"I cannot think about anything more appropriate to do to help these families," Beyonce said in a statement about the song. "Almost 10 years [after 9/11], it is still so painful for all Americans, especially those who lost loved ones. We were all affected by the tragedies of 9/11 and continue to keep the families who lost loved ones close to our hearts."

"On behalf of New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund's Board of Directors and the families of our fallen heroes, we are truly grateful for Beyonce's choice to support our charity and 'answer the call,' " Stephen J. Dannhauser, chairman of the New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund, said.

Beyonce's version of 'God Bless the USA' is currently available for purchase on iTunes.
