Future Dancing Queen Carly Rae Jepsen Teases Disco Sound on Third Album
Carly Rae Jepsen's sparkling sophomore album, EMOTION, will have been out for a year come this August. And while sleek, saccharine tracks like "Run Away With Me" and "Boy Problems" still sound just as fresh and infectious as they did last summer, the Canadian Princess of Pop is already onto the next.
While her 2015 LP dipped its polished toes into the pool of bright, twinkly '80s pop—with Jepsen working with the likes of Ariel Rechtshaid (Madonna) to craft a collection of upbeat new-wave and dance-pop bangers and ballads—album number three is already shaping up with another glamorous decade in mind: the '70s.
Speaking to Vancouver Sun, the underrated pop star revealed that as she has been in the early stages of writing for her as-yet-untitled third studio album, and is currently in a dancing queen mood. "I can’t explain what we’re doing right now, but we’re very much into disco-y things, whatever this next album may or may not turn out to be," the singer explained. "But I’m very much referencing ABBA a lot, and the Bee Gees, all of that stuff.”
Jepsen continued on her exploration of '70s sounds: “It’s fun to dig into oldies and see what you can celebrate about it, like a good movie or good song, to take your favorite pieces of something and add some new stuff to create something different."
Carly Rae Jepsen, diva of the discotheque? Try not to aaah, freak out!
