Clara Mae + Jake Miller Fear Lonely Roads Ahead in Stripped-Down ‘Better Me Better You’ (PREMIERE)
It's a lonely road ahead for Clara Mae and Jake Miller on their brand new, stripped-down version of "Better Me Better You," but at least the path is paved with beautiful music.
The original track, released in May, gets a piano-painted spin in a brand new acoustic rendition that PopCrush is exclusively premiering below, and the lovers in question are caught in a bit of a pickle — should they stay where it's safe, or venture onward to potentially greener pastures?
"Your mood is like sudden thunder / From nowhere a perfect summer / That's so typical, yeah, that's so typical, you / Talk about your ambitions / Drink for a while and ditch them / That's so typical, so damn typical," they croon over delicate, strings-dusted production.
Mae told PopCrush that working with Miller has been a totally gratifying experience, and that he helped convey the song's message beautifully.
“It was amazing to work with Jake Miller and this song means so much to me. I love making acoustic versions and try to make one for every song I release," she said. "I think it makes you really listen to the lyrics and message of the song, which is important to me as a songwriter and artist. I needed to tell this story, and we had a lot of fun doing it.”
And Miller echoed the sentiment, noting that the addition of certain instruments colored the song with more intense emotions.
“Recording the acoustic version was so special," he said. "All the strings and violins really had me in my feelings when I was in the vocal booth. And Clara sounded so beautiful on it, which inspired me to put a little extra into my vocals as well.”
